Front brakes on an estate
A grinding noise when braking: the pads were down to the metal and had scored the discs. New discs, pads and fluid, and quiet again.

The owner heard a grinding noise for a week before booking in. On the lift we found the inner pads worn through to the backing plate, which had cut grooves into both discs. One caliper slider was seized, so the pads on that side had been dragging.
We fitted new discs and pads, freed and greased both sliders, and changed the brake fluid, which had taken on 3% water. A road test, a bedding-in run, and the car stopped straight and quietly.
